Backups are a local way to reinstate CompassCAD designs on certain circumstances which are common (such as close, shutdown, reboot, etc) but backups cannot be performed under certain circumstances (such as a crash, immediate computer switch-off, etc). If a backup is saved, you can reinstate through the backup menu by clicking the clock icon next to the “Open Design” button.

🤔 How to create and restore backups?

Creating a backup is simple! Draw your design, then close CompassCAD. After closing, reopen it and see your most recent backup in the very top. Double-click on it to reinstate your backup.

However, you should be very cautious of the Clear ALL backups button, because if you have clicked it, there is no way to restore your backup, by any means.

📁 Where are my backups located at?

Your backup location varies per OS.

All backups are in the *.bkp file format. The bkp file format is just a different version of the ccad file format that contains all design data. The backup format will go as follows:

backup-<year>-<month>-<day>-<hour>-<minute>-<second>.bkp
